Domain and URL Searches

Depending on the input, the search algorithm looks for different variations of the input.

  • A search for a domain searches for that domain, subdomains, URLs, and emails
  • A search for a URL with a path is treated as unique URL search and only finds exact matches

Examples:

  • example.com searches for that domain, subdomains, URLs, and emails
  • https://subdomain.domain.com/ (with the slash appended) is treated as unique URL and only searches for that
  • https://subdomain.domain.com/path/ is also treated as unique URL

URLs are normalized before searching, which means the query part is removed.

Subdomains

Wildcard searches for domains are supported at one level:

  • test.com will automatically searches for that domain and any subdomain below that.
  • subdomain.test.com will only search for that subdomain.
  • test1.test.domain and test2.test1.test.domain are both treated as unique domains, i.e. not in relation to each other. Searching for one will not return the other. The solution is to search for the specific domain.

Adding an asterisk as a prefix does not change that behavior.

Phone Numbers

The highest yield of search results for phone numbers comes from Russian numbers. Not all international phone numbers are currently recognized. Phone numbers must begin with an international code, using the +420, 00420, or 420 format.
